MTT develops First Airline BlackBerry® App in Asia Pacific for Virgin Blue
Australia’s award winning airline, Virgin Blue, has launched new mobile services in conjunction with MTT, to enhance services for business travellers. The range of services includes check-in, seat selection, mobile boarding pass, change and booking and is available on virtually all mobile devices. Additionally BlackBerry® users can choose to download a custom-built BlackBerry® App from the BlackBerry App World store providing the easiest and most efficient service on BlackBerry.
Targeted to the needs of business travellers, the downloadable Virgin Blue Application for BlackBerry® is free to Guests. For example, using the App, in a few easy steps a Guest can select an onboard seat using interactive seat maps, check-in and obtain a mobile barcode boarding pass, vital for business people when on-the-move and away from PC and printer.
The App capitalises on the features of the BlackBerry® device to offer additional services, such as allowing users to store itineraries to their calendar, save mobile boarding passes to their device and send their flight details to a contact.
The App can be downloaded from the BlackBerry App World Store at http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/6426.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, “Being at the forefront of technological advancements is critical to the Virgin Blue strategy to providing our Guests, especially those who are time poor, with the latest innovations to make their travel experience streamlined and speedy.”
He continues, “We are excited to be the first airline in the country to be offering this full suite of mobile options, in particular the ability for people to actually make a flight booking, check themselves in on their way to the airport and then go straight to boarding with their 2D barcode.”
Additionally, for Guests not downloading the Application, they can access the full range of services via the Virgin Blue mobile web site at virginblue.com.au. The site is optimised for over 6,000 devices, ranging from standard feature phones up to smartphones, including BlackBerry and iPhone.
These services have been developed using MTT’s intelligent mobile airline platform, m2plane, which has the flexibility to power both Mobile Web and App services, and interfaces to Virgin Blue’s systems. To view the Virgin Blue Mobile site, enter virginblue.com.au into your mobile device’s browser.
